Category: Waterproofing work
Waterproofing system: SikaProof® A+ 12 with thermally joined seams | Sikadur-Combiflex® TF system in the joint area
Project description:
In Görlitz, the Free State of Saxony is building the new Senckenberg Campus — a central building complex for the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History. The new building will later serve valuable collection, research and teaching purposes for the academic study programs as a branch of the TU Dresden. The Senckenberg Museum’s administration and workshops will also be housed at the new location. A total of 8300 m² of usable space is planned. The entire complex comprises 5 building sections, some of which are divided into connecting buildings to the existing neighboring buildings and building sections in the inner courtyard. Existing listed and historic parts of the building will also be renovated and integrated into the complex. The overall project is planned to cost around EUR 60 million and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2023.
Project requirements:
The new building was planned as a water-impermeable concrete structure in accordance with the WU guideline and is classified as a high-quality use. The design water level is above the planned floor slab, which is why the construction must be dimensioned against pressing water. Due to the extremely sensitive use of the interior spaces, the requirement here is for a functional design with the highest possible level of safety.
Solutions:
In order to reduce the risks as far as possible, a construction consisting of a white tank in combination with a fresh concrete composite system was chosen. The choice fell on the innovative SikaProof A+ technology, which is characterized by a hybrid composite with maximum construction site robustness. Thanks to the construction with a special TPO-based composite surface, the sheets could be thermally joined together in the seam area. This seam joining variant is characterized by maximum safety, robustness and reliability, which is why the quality of the overall measure can be significantly increased. In combination with the Sikadur-Combiflex TF system as a masking system for joint sealing and transitions, a complete and fully tested overall system is provided. Coupled with the high-quality execution of the construction project by the general contractor Hentzsche Bau, Bautzen, and the certified specialist installer August Reiners Bauwerkserhaltung Wüstenbrand, the Senckenberg Campus in Görlitz is thus optimally protected.
