CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS ON THE SCHEMMELSBERG TUNNEL

Construction work on the rescue tunnel for the B39 Schemmelsberg tunnel is progressing. The base concreting has been underway since October and 21 base blocks and the temporary roadway will be completed by the end of the year.

The small cross-section and limited access options, which make construction site logistics considerably more difficult, pose a challenge. In addition to the concreting work, the sealers and iron binders are still working on the construction site. In January, the parallel road tunnel will be fully closed and the second breakthrough made. The second phase of the construction project begins, in which renovation, renewal of the roadway and tunnel equipment in the existing tunnel take place in parallel with the structural work in the rescue tunnel. The consortium partners PORR Verkehrstechnik and Leonhard Weiss have proven to be reliable project partners so far.

The construction site is on schedule thanks to fast and good tunnelling work. By the end of 2025, all trades should have completed their work and the tunnel will be put back into operation with modernized equipment.
