As part of a PPP project, the BBS I and BBS III school extension in Altenhagen was successfully completed on time for the district of Celle. AUGUST REINERS Bauunternehmung GmbH, as PPP contract partner, was responsible for the planning, turnkey construction, interim construction financing and maintenance services.

In addition to the construction of the school building, the contract also included the construction of sports facilities and outdoor areas. The roof of the building has a PV system. The project has DGNB and QNG Silver certification.

The new extension to the Altenhagen school complex was placed centrally in the area of application as an independent two-storey building block to completely frame the schoolyard area. An appropriate distance from the existing building allows direct access to the sports areas in the southeast without separating them from the new campus center.

The roofs of the surrounding buildings, which are characteristic of the area, were continued and reinterpreted on the extension. The solid gable ends of the newly designed pitched roofs give the building the necessary degree of individual character without dominating the existing buildings.

The multifunctional hall, which is generously lit via an inner courtyard and skylights, acts as the center and heart of the building between the two main entrances, with an open staircase as the main access to the second floor.
The majority of the classrooms are located there, which are accessed via a two-floor system along the hall, the inner courtyard and side room zones. Along the corridors, widenings with integrated seating niches serve to extend modern teaching with differentiated and spontaneous small groups beyond the classrooms.
